A background on birth statistics in the U.S., including the disparities in birth outcomes for women of color and babies born to women of color
Remedies to common discomforts of pregnancy for each trimester
Methods used to keep pregnancy normal and to encourage natural labor
In depth understanding of the Physiology of labor and birth
Comfort measures for the stages of labor
Techniques for pain relief and relaxation
Basics of newborn care, and immediate postpartum procedures and care for mom and baby
Assistance with connecting with expectant mothers
Information on being successful and confident as a doula/birth companion
Continuous mentorship and support from a Midwife, Birth & Postpartum Doula, Lactation Consultant and Childbirth Educator
A resource list to guide and refer to for clients
A *Certificate of Completion once all requirements of the training are completed.
What will I be able to offer after this training?
Basic information on pregnancy and the childbirth process to expectant women/families
Comfort and support physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually
Advocacy for birth justice, respect and humane practices
Labor support in a variety of settings; hospital, birth center, home
What is required for completetion certification?
Completion of all assignments, passing grade on weekly quizzes and training evaluation form.
Attending two Lactation Support meetings (one of which must be a Chocolate Milk Café meeting)
Attending two births (These two births cannot be births of your own, however, they can be births of friends, sisters, family, client, etc. Assistance will be provided, if needed in finding births to attend.)
