Assata Shakur "She Who Struggles" Scholarship

May 5th - June 28th, 2026

Birth from The Earth's Assata Shakur "She Who Struggles" Scholarship is for BIPOC Student Midwives on their journey to serving their communities.

We honor the late and beloved Assata Shakur and her revolutionary energy, because we know that offering the Midwifery Model of Care is truly a revolutionary act. With intentional obstacles in the way for BIPOC "Midwives Ever Learning", we know the struggle is real, and our purpose for this Scholarship is to ease some of the path.

Application process:

Scholarship Applications Open on May 5th, 2026 [International Day of the Midwife] and will remain open through June 28th, 2026.

Recipients of awarded funds may use them towards tuition, books, supplies, travel expenses for hands-on learning, cost for classes or trainings, etc.

Selected applicants may receive a follow-up e-mail requesting additional information, as we make our selection process.

Recipients will be notified and announced by July 15th.

7 Scholarships will be awarded, based on need, circumstance, and scenario, in the following denominations:
